The Activity Instructor (Robotics) will teach individuals and groups basics and principles of robotics. Reports to: PROGRAM DIRECTOR, AFTER SCHOOL AT SBAMM Location: 778 Forest Ave, Bronx, NY 10456 Hours: Up to 6 Hours/Week; Non-Exempt Major Duties: Assist in the recruitment of class participants. Provide and teach well planned robotic classes to participants. Teach participants the principles of building structurally sound robots using LEGO blocks. Will explain clearly functions of power source, sensors, motors and structural members of a robot while relating it to STEM. Teach the basics of how to program a robot using the LEGO Mindstorms programming interface. Develop Robotics curriculum (based on students interest). Curriculum will promote creativity, self-expression, mastery, and emotional and professional growth. Attend and participate in staff meetings. Create a youth development, strength s based environment, fostering a sense of belonging, safety, and community to participants. Responsible for the setup, operation and clean up of activities and the organization, inventory and storing of relevant supplies and equipment. Submit lesson/activity plans in advance. Guide program participants in examining choices, following directions and becoming involved in program activities. Qualifications: High School diploma or GED required. Some college and experience with adolescents preferred. Must have experience teaching robotics in the context of after school or or camp like setting. Must possess working knowledge of robotics, problem solving skills, and fluency of logic needed for simple computer programming. Experience and/or training relevant to the position required. Must be able to engage young people and set structure and limits in a group setting. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based and/or youth development perspective.
