Under general direction, to provide professional psychiatric, diagnostic, and therapeutic services for Mental Health Department clients; to conduct clinical interviews for clients who have complex mental health needs; to assist with the education and training of other staff, community agencies and the public; and to do related work as required. General Job Requirements Principles and practices of modern clinical psychiatry and general medicine. Characteristics and requirements of psychiatric institutions. Welfare and Institution laws relative to the care of clients in a Mental Health system. Methods of evaluation and treatment of mental illness. Psycho-pharmacology Principles and methods of psychiatric research and diagnosis. Principles of mental health education and counseling. Community organizations, resources, and allied mental health services available in the local area. Recovery-oriented principles of psychiatric care. Possession of a valid Illinois license as a physician/surgeon Completion of three (3) years of graduate training in psychiatry in a program approved by the American Medical Association or the American Osteopathic Association. Certification in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology is highly desirable.
